Duties and Responsibilities
 
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-HABITAT, is the United Nations agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The vacancy is located in Habitat III Secretariat, OED, UN-Habitat. Under the overall guidance of the Habitat III Secretariat Coordinator and aligned with the global Habitat III Communications strategy, the consultant will:
1. Work on coordinating the development of the Habitat III website and potential other digital platforms. Ensure the proper, appropriate and timely dissemination of information.
2. Manage the entire content for the Habitat III website. Assist in the oversight of the team’s material.
3. Design, programme and perform final editing of the material posted on the website.
4. Coordinate policies, maintain and develop contacts with the officials programming the website and other UN departments.
5. Provide support and assist Habitat III communications team on the development of the communications and outreach digital strategy.
6. Search, produce, edit and publish content for social media.
7. Analyze usage statistics of the Habitat III website and other Habitat III digital platforms.
8. Prepare, as assigned, reports such as input to the monthly report of on specific issues or events.
9. Keep abreast of current developments in the Internet and in particular productivity enhancing solutions relating to digital language.
 
Qualifications/special skills
 
Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, information systems, or related field.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressively experience in public information, journalism, computer science, information systems or related area.
Experience in website development and management.
Experience in working with image editing software is desirable.
Language: Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable. Another UN language will be considered beneficial.
