Org. Setting and Reporting
|

|
This position will be located in the Investigations Office of the Organisation for the Prohibitions of Chemical Weapons-United Nations Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM), established by Security Council resolution 2235 (2015). This position will be based in The Hague. The JIM is established for a period of one year. This temporary job opening is until 31 December 2015, subject to extension. The Investigator (Chemical Ordnance Specialist) reports to the Chief of the Investigation Office.

Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
•Evaluate chemical weapons related incidents as reported in work done by the OPCW Fact Finding Missions (FFM) and provide analytical reports to support the work of JIM on the nature, composition, deployment and use of chemical weapons or industrial toxic chemicals used as weapons. •Provide technical briefings to the staff in the Investigations Office, as well as to the Leadership Panel on all relevant information pertaining to chemical weapons and chemicals used as weapons in the Syrian Arab Republic and provide guidance to the investigation team on the specific military applications of chemical weapons, use and deployment doctrines and any other aspects relevant to the work of the JIM as it relates to the use of chemical weapons. •Monitor and support the conduct of investigations by reviewing information gathered and reports compiled as they relate to the development, deployment, use and impact of chemical weapons and chemicals used as weapons. •In the context of the work of the JIM, provide analysis of military activities as they relate to the development, deployment, use and impact of chemical weapons or chemicals used as weapons.

Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced university degree in science (preferably in chemistry or chemical engineering). A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience (minimum 9 years) may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Extensive knowledge in the area of chemical weapon destruction and chemical weapon munitions design is essential.

|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in the field of chemical demilitarisation and/or chemical weapons technology in combination with an advanced university degree, or 9 years relevant experience with a first level degree. Experience with an international or multilateral public institution or international organization is desirable.
|
|
|
|
Languages
|
|
|
|
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
|
|
|
|
