|
|
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The post is located in the Regional Office for Arab. The focus of this job is on the coordination and facilitation of development projects and programmes and provision of technical advice and support to project partners, aligned with UN-HABITAT's mandate, objectives, focus areas and expected results. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Regional Office the incumbent will perform the following tasks.

Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
1. Project Programme implementation: a) Provides technical assistance and implementation support to the government, project partners and key stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of projects and programmes.
b) Facilitates the participation of Habitat agenda partners in developing strategic policy interventions to address issues of concern related to land and housing for all.
c) Builds country capacity for improved management through training, provision of tools and mechanisms.
d) Ensures quality and coherence of the respective programme based on results achieved as well as developing and implementing a reporting and Monitoring & Evaluation system.
2. Project/Programme Management
a) Prepares project procurement plans and ensures timely procurement of materials.
b) Promotes UN-HABITAT norms and tools and strengthening information flows with partners and stakeholders.
c) Manages the project and programme portfolio by providing inputs to the Regional Office.
3.Project/Programme Development:
a) Identifying key areas for interventions in human settlements within the framework of the Habitat Agenda, Habitat Country Programme Documents UNDAF and sector reviews;
b) Participating in the development and review of project documentation;
c) Negotiating with multi-lateral/bilateral partners for resource mobilisation and promoting/coordinating joint activities.
4. Perform any other relevant duties as assigned.

Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced university degree in housing, urban planning, engineering, environmental management or other field relevant to the respective programme is required. A first university degree with a combination of additional two years professional and academic qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
|
|
|
|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
At least ten years of experience in programme/ project planning and implementation, preferably with international organizations is required. Some years of experience in disaster mitigation and risk reduction is desirable. International experience is also an added advantage.
|
|
|
|
Languages
|
|
|
|
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French and/or fluency in the national language of the respective country (both oral and written) is an asset. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
|
|
|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based Interview.
