This position is in the Trade Analysis Branch, Division on International Trade in Goods and Services, and Commodities (DITC) on United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
|
|
|
|
Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the general guidance of the Chief of Trade Analysis Branch and the direct supervision of the Chief of Global and Regional Trade Analysis Section, the incumbent assumes responsibility for the research and advisory services for the Section/Branch.
More specifically, the incumbent:
• Coordinates UNCTAD's participation in the United Nations Forum on Sustainability Standards (UNFSS) and other similar bodies.
• Designs and conducts economic studies of impacts of private standards on developing countries' trade and drafts resulting reports, including global, regional, national or sector analyses on private standards that provide a basis for advising national governments on this issue.
• Interprets and applies results of econometric modeling to analysis of private standards.
• Develops draft policy recommendations pertaining to private standards and their classification.
• Attends international, regional, and national meetings to hold discussions with representatives of other institutions.
• Organizes expert group meetings, seminars, including within the UNFSS.
• Designs and monitors technical cooperation projects and undertakes fund-raising activities. Conducts training seminars and workshops for government officials and others.
• Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit’s service.

Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics, international trade, standardization or related areas. A first-level university degree in combination with at least two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
|
|
|
|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible relevant experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation in the field of international trade and/or market access. Experience in the conduct of economic assessments and impact analyses using modern analytical tools, software and databases and with technical cooperation projects is required. Experience in the conduct of training events in the field as well as experience with fundraising are desirable.

Languages
|
|
|
|
Fluency in written and spoken English or French is required. Knowledge of the other UN language is desirable.
|
|
|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed
by competency-based interview.
