|
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-HABITAT, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The post is located at the Water and Sanitation Unit at the Accra duty station. The incumbent will report directly to the Unit Leader, Water and Sanitation Unit.

Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the overall supervision of the Coordinator of the Urban Basic Services Branch, the incumbent will be responsible for providing overall technical coordination to the Joint UN project “Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Disaster Prone Communities in the Northern Regions of Ghana and will perform the following functions:- 1. Project Inception and Coordination Arrangements:- a) Facilitate the set-up of the project management and coordination structures. b) Liaise with United Nations Development Programme in Accra to facilitate the provision of logistics and procurement of goods and services. c) Lead the process for a comprehensive baseline information gathering, collation and management. d) Coordinate efforts with other UN partner organizations and assist in the preparation of guidelines, manuals and operating procedures. e) Develop mechanisms for ensuring systematic mainstreaming of cross cutting issues. 2. Project Management and Operations:- a) Plan resource requirements and implement activities and allocate inputs. b) Collaborate with UN partners and National implementation partners to; operationalize resilient Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) solutions; Promote education programmes and awareness of hygiene practices; Enhance local capacity in the beneficiary communities and contribute to measures. c) Provide oversight of the financial, contractual and budgetary aspects of the project; Monitor emerging needs in the Northern Regional of Ghana, identify complementary actions, design proposals and formulate modalities; Provide technical and management advice to the project team and evaluate the work plan. d) Identify capacity building needs, develop proposals and provide technical assistance; Organize trainings. 3. Project Monitoring and Reporting:- a) Coordinate and monitor project progress. b) Coordinate the preparation of various reports. c) Ensure proper documentation and prepare technical working papers and reports. d) Engage with and contribute during National level sector processes and policy advocacy. 4. Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

Education
|
|
|
|
An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Urban and Regional Planning/ Management, Urban Economics, Engineering -related field or relevant social science discipline is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

|
|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in Urban Basic Services with focus on the WASH sector; Project or programme development and management Understanding of the specific needs and conditions of delivery of services to the low-income residents and slum dwellers. Experience in applying knowledge of area of specialization at national and global level. Candidates must have demonstrated skills in developing and implementing related programmes. Strong analytical skills is required. Either by experience or education, candidates are expected to have acquired ability to work with specialists from various fields and lead a consultative process to achieve intended goals.

Languages
|
|
|
|
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of a second UN language is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
