|
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.
The UNEP DTIE internship is for 6 months.
The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 - 40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the direct supervision of the information officer in the Communications Department of the Division of Technology, Industry and Economics, the intern will assist in developing various information tools and raising awareness on environmental issues among different target groups (governments, business, NGOs, academics, etc.). Daily responsibilities may vary depending on the individual’s background as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the organization of information booths and press events - Design and develop the content of various communication tools - Undertake research work - Prepare daily press clippings - Monitor media coverage of DTIE’s press releases - Draft conference proceedings in English and French - Participate in outreach activities related to sustainable consumption and production (SCP) activities, in particular: promotion of the Global Clearinghouse on Sustainable Consumption and Production (www.unep.org/resourceefficiency/Policy/SCPPoliciesandthe10YFP/The10YearFrameworkProgrammesonSCP/GlobalSCPClearinghouse/tabid/102573/Default.aspx), organization of events, drafting of articles and posts for SCP newsletters and social networks - Identify and upload new ads on the UNEP Creative Gallery on Sustainability Communications (www.unep.fr/scp/communications/ads.htm)

Education

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Studies at the Masters level in Communications, International Relations or Environmental Issues is preferred.

Work Experience
|

|
|
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Languages
|
|
|
|
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship, fluency in oral and written English and French is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language preferably French is desirable.
