This post is located in the Engineering Unit, Buildings and Engineering Section, Central Support Services, Division of Administration, United Nations Office at Geneva.

Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the supervision of the Chief of the Engineering Unit, the incumbent:
• Performs preventive and remedial maintenance tasks; modifies installations, including by disassembly, replacement and assembly of machinery and air-conditioning units; adjusts and tests equipment; and makes preventive inspections;
• Analyses malfunctions, solves problems and takes emergency measures as required, in cooperation with other subunits as necessary;
• Makes suggestions on improving and on maintaining installations, which comprise principally: 4 main boilers; 8 secondary boilers; 10 heating substations; approximately 100 air-conditioning clusters; 6 clusters of turbocompressors for production of chilled water; 8 cooling towers; 4 clusters of diesel emergency generators; 35 air-conditioning units; 31 commercial refrigeration units; ice-making machines and other cold storage units;
• Is responsible for maintaining air-conditioning units.
- Ensure on call duty/stand by duty.

Education
|
|
|
|
Completion of secondary education. Additional training / course in air conditioning is desirable. A qualification in heating, ventilation and the handling of refrigerants would be an advantage. Must have passed the Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT).

Work Experience
|
|
|
|
At least 5 years’ experience in building maintenance or industrial maintenance, including maintenance of high-capacity chilled water, air conditioning, hot water and compressed air production systems and of ventilation and hydraulic installations. Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the high school or secondary school diploma.
|
|
|
|
Languages
|
|
|
|
Fluency in French is required. Knowledge of English is desirable.
|
|
|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a technical test. Only successful candidates will be invited for a competency-based interview.
|
|
|

Passing the Administrative Assessment Support Test (ASAT) at Headquarters or an equivalent recognised locally-administered test at a United Nations Office is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Service category in the United Nations Secretariat.
