This position is located in the Medical Services Division, Office of Human Resources Management, Department of Management. The incumbent reports to the Head Nurse, Medical Services Division, and/or a Medical Officer

Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the supervision of the Head Nurse, Medical Service Division, Office of Human Resources Management, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties: Clinical Duties: • Respond to emergency calls and assist Medical Officers in providing adequate care; ensure effective liaison between patient and private doctor, paramedics, family members, and colleagues as appropriate; document case findings; • Perform ECG, X-rays and other medical exams such as blood tests, glucose, cholesterol and urine exams , as required; • Assess needs of clients visiting the walk-in clinic, provide care/advice (e.g., the benefits of preventive medicine, etc.) accordingly or facilitate referral to the UN Medical Officer or to an outside physician, as indicated; • Ensure preparedness of staff travelling on missions or reassignments, including administration of appropriate vaccine, instructions on malaria prophylaxis and other travel-related ailments. Instruct on the content and potential uses of the travel kit; • Prepare health education material and conduct sessions to address staff on work environment, occupational health and other specific medical and health issues for groups of staff; Medico-administrative duties: • Assist Head Nurse in all of her/his duties activities as required; • Timely preparation of Headquarters claims under Appendix D to the staff Rules to be presented to the Medical Officer in charge; • Train staff in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation; • Ensure that medical instruments are properly sterilized; • Ensure proper filing of medical and other records; prepare or oversee the preparation of sick leave reports/certificates and certification of sick leaves on the IMIS; • Liaise with the insurance company regarding hospital admission of staff members/eligible dependents, procession of insurance claims and other related matters as required; • Evaluate, order and maintain an efficient inventory and stock control of medications/vaccines and other medical supplies and equipment. Supervisory Duties: • Assume all supervisory and medico-administrative duties of the Head Nurse in her/his absence. General: • Perform other related duties as required; Results Expected: Provision of quality nursing services that contribute to good physical and mental health of the staff of the Organization.

Education
|
|
|
|
Registered Professional Nurse with high school diploma and who is a graduate of either an accelerated Baccalaureate Nursing Programme or an accredited Diploma Programme (3 years). A higher degree in nursing or related areas is desirable. Certificate in EKG, CPR or Basic Life Support is an asset.
|
|
|
|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
Ten years of progressive clinical experience in nursing is required. Additional experience in emergency care, and travel medicine is desirable. Experience in a charge nurse or senior role is desirable. Experience in occupational health nursing or practice management is desirable.
|
|
|
|
Languages
|
|
|
|
Fluency in oral and written English; knowledge of other official UN languages is an advantage.
|
|
|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
|

Recruitment for this position is done on a local basis, whether or not the candidate is a resident of the duty station.
This position is funded with extra-budgetary resources. Appointnment and extension against this position is subject to budgetary and funding approval.
Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her. In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures.
