This post is located in the Office of the Director, Division of Administration, United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG).
|
|
|
|
Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the direct supervision of the Director of the Division of Administration, the incumbent will contribute to the activities undertaken by the unit, including:
– Based on the results of a gap analysis, develop and implement UNOG’s business continuity management strategy and policy, including regularly revising and updating UNOG's business continuity and pandemic plans;
– Develop and keep up-to-date guidelines and tools in support of business continuity, taking into account best practices from the UN System, and the public and private sector, and translate available lessons learned into effective improvements in business continuity planning;
Provide technical and subject matter expertise to all Divisions with the development and implementation of multi-hazard business continuity plans, ensuring that robust business continuity plans are implemented;
– Coordinate with Geneva-based funds and programmes to implement business continuity and pandemic preparedness activities to ensure a harmonized approach to business continuity and pandemic preparedness in the UN; this also includes chairing an inter-agency Technical Working Group on business continuity planning that consists of Business Continuity Specialists from other UN organizations present in Geneva, in its role of providing a forum to discuss lessons learned and challenges faced when implementing business continuity plans;
– Coordinate with the Office of Information Technology and contribute to the development and implementation of the IT Disaster Recovery Plan, including identifying critical applications and enhancing telecommuting infrastructure;
– Develop and implement UNOG’s strategy for maintenance, exercise and review of the business continuity and pandemic plans, integrating lessons learned from exercises and events, gap analyses of office and staff response capability, and the training needs of the organization’s critical staff;
– Represent business continuity on the UNOG Crisis Management Team;
– Coordinate with the UNOG Security and Safety Service on the implementation of the Crisis Management Plan;
– Coordinate with the UNOG Project Manager for the Organization Resilience Management System at (ORMS) on the implementation, preparation and harmonization of all necessary crisis and emergency management plans.

Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent), preferably in crisis/disaster management, business administration, information technology, social science, or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A certification in Business Continuity Planning or Emergency Preparedness Planning is required. Project management training is desirable.

Work Experience
|
|
|
|
A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in business administration and or/project management or related area, of which at least four (4) years should be in the field of crisis management, business continuity planning or pandemic preparedness planning. Experience in working in the not-for-profit sector, preferably in an international environment is desirable.
|
|
|
|
Languages
|
|
|
|
Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
|
|
|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by a competency-based interview.
|
|
|
|
