This position is located in the Financing for Development Office. The Economic Affairs Officer reports to the Head of a Branch or Unit or to a Senior Economics Affairs Officer.
|
|
|
|
Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the supervision of the Chief of Unit and/or Senior Economic Affairs Officer in the Multi-Stakeholder Engagement & Outreach Branch, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
• Monitor new initiatives and frameworks in sustainable development financing and other relevant developments and manage the consultation process with relevant international and regional financial institutions and other relevant stakeholders.
• Monitor economic developments and identify recurrent and emerging issues of specific thematic areas of the Monterrey Consensus and Doha Declaration on Financing for Development, especially those related to financing for sustainable development and the Financing for Development follow-up process.
• Provide substantive support to the General Assembly and ECOSOC and service inter-agency meetings within the FfD follow-up process, including support for the financing for sustainable development processes and the preparation for the third international conference on financing for development.
• Develop economic databases and qualitative information necessary for specified recurrent or ad hoc assignments.
• Draft specified inputs for technical papers and analytical studies on selected global, regional, national or sector aspects of financing sustainable development and the FfD follow-up process.
• Assist in the organization of expert group meetings, seminars, etc. on the topics related to financing sustainable development, including drafting reports, overseeing and engaging in note-taking, and overseeing and offering administrative support as needed.
• Prepare speeches and other inputs for presentations on topics related to financing sustainable development and related areas by senior staff and review inputs of junior staff and provide feedback.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief of Unit, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the FfDO’s outputs.

Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
|
|
|
|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in economics, economic development or related field. Experience in policy formulation, economic research, academic or related work is required. Experience with the UN intergovernmental processes is desirable.
|
|
|
|
Languages
|
|
|
|
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage.
|
|
|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified applicants may include a substantive assessment, which may be followed by a competency-based interview.

This post is financed by General Temporary Assistance resources for a period of 12 months. Extension of the appointment is subject to availability of funds. If the selected candidate is an internal staff member of the UN Secretariat, the selection will be recorded as a temporary assignment.
Staff Members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by the Secretary-General. In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures.
