This position is located in the Medical Services Division, Office of Human Resources Management, Department of Management. The Medical Officer reports to the Senior Medical Officer for Peacekeeping.
|
|
|
|
Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Within delegated authority, the Medical Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
CLINICAL DUTIES: • Undertakes day-to-day clinical duties, e.g. walk-in clinic, emergencies, • Undertakes day-to-day occupational health duties: pre-placement and periodic medical examinations prepare UN staff for travelling by providing immunizations, malaria prophylaxis, travel kits, etc. • Refers staff to outside specialists, as necessary. • Follows-up with outside specialists. • Provides health education and health promotion programs. • Organizes/Participates in addressing work environment and occupational health issues.
MEDICO ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES: • Advises Administration and Medical Director on medical standards for recruitment, sick leave, and medical evacuations/repatriations as per United Nations policies and guidelines. • Deputizes for the Senior/Chief Officer during his/her absence.
SUPERVISORY ADMINISTRATION: • Supervises administrative staff as appropriate.
GENERAL: • Performs other related duties as required.

PROFESSIONALISM: Knowledge of clinical, occupational and tropical/travel medicine. Formal training in CPR and, preferably in BCLS and ACLS or equivalent emergency medical care. Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced University degree (MD or equivalent) in medicine, including residency/internship or post graduate training in one of the medical specialties.
|
|
|
|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible clinical experience in the medical field is required. Knowledge and experience in occupational, travel and tropical medicine is desirable. Previous UN/international medical experience is desirable. Proficiency in electronic medical records and modern information office technology is desirable.
|
|
|
|
Languages
|
|
|
|
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
|
|
|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise, which may be followed by competency-based interview.
|
