This post is located in the Division of Conference Management (DCM). The Chief of the Interpretation Service reports to the Director of the Division.
|
|
|
|
Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the direction of and in full consultation with the Director, Division of Conference Management, the incumbent directs the day-to-day operations as well as long range planning of the Interpretation Service; insures that interpretation requirements of meetings servicing are met; coordinates resources at UNOG with those of Headquarters Vienna, Nairobi and other Secretariat locations.
The incumbent also identifies the long term interpretation needs of the UNOG; recruits interpreters and obtain resources needed to meet the interpretation requirement; in the context of the integrated global management (IGM) of conference services initiates and elaborates UNOG interpretation policies in coordination with the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) and other conference servicing duty stations; as well as acts as alternate chairperson of the Boards of the Competitive Examinations for Interpreters.
The incumbent may be called upon to replace the Director of the Division in his/her absence.

Education
|

|
|
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) from a university or institution of equivalent status preferably in one of the following fields: languages, communication, international affairs, social sciences, management, public administration or related fields. A first level university degree combined with a relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
|
|
|
|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible relevant professional and managerial experience in activities related to management and/or conference servicing (such as interpretation, and/or other conference management or administration-related areas). Of these 15 years at least five years should preferably be at the United Nations, international organizations or at the international level in activities related to conference servicing (such as interpretation, and/or other conference management areas).

Languages
|
|
|
|
Fluency (oral and written) in English and French; knowledge of additional official UN languages is desirable.
|
|
|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
A written assessment may be conducted. Only candidates who are successful in the written assessment will be convoked to a competency-based interview.
|
|
|
|

Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her. In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures.
