This position is located in the Development Statistics and Information Branch, Division on Globalization and Development Strategies, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
|
|
|
|
Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the supervision of the Head of Development Statistics and Information Branch, the Chief of the Statistics Production Unit will be responsible for the following duties:
• Organizes, designs, plans and carries out the collection, evaluation, analysis, compilation and dissemination of trade and macroeconomic statistics by selecting methods of data collection, selecting and implementing methods for checking collected data, and selecting and implementing appropriate methods for data processing for incorporation into databases.
• Participates in the development, implementation and management of trade, macroeconomics and financial database(s).
• Provides training and technical support on data collection programmes, country practices and other related information.
• Participates in the development or revision of standards on statistical concepts, definitions and classifications by performing methodological research.
• Prepares draft technical documents for international, intergovernmental and expert group meetings and assists in drafting relevant reports.
• Organizes and participates in seminars, working groups and expert meetings as a technical resource person.
• Guides trains and supervises general service staff.
• Coordinates with economists from other Branches and Divisions to calculate ad-hoc statistical indicators and tables for special requests.
• Manages the use of the Bloomberg terminal.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in statistics, economics or econometrics. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
|
|
|
|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of statistical data, preferably on trade statistics, national accounts or balance of payments. Knowledge of international financial statistics is an asset.
|
|
|
|
Languages
|
|
|
|
Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
|
|
|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
|
|
|
|
