This position is located in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), Financing for Development Office (FfDO), Office of the Director. The Economic Affairs Officer reports to the Director, FfDO.
|
|
|
|
Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the overall supervision of the Director of the Financing for Development Office, the Economic Affairs Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
• Monitor, analyze and report on developments, actions and policy proposals related to specific thematic areas of the Monterrey Consensus and Doha Declaration on Financing for Development, especially those related to financing for sustainable development.
• Coordinate inputs to reports for the General Assembly and ECOSOC on follow-up efforts to the Monterrey and Doha Conferences, as well as other studies, technical papers and publications, as appropriate;
• Assist in organization and servicing of expert group meetings, panel discussions, round tables, seminars and briefings on the topics related to FfD;
• Provide substantive support to the General Assembly and ECOSOC within the FfD follow-up process;
• Serve as the focal point for outreach activities, including publications, newsletters and websites, including management of the content of the FfD website;
• Assist the Director on programme, budget and administrative matters, including the preparation of the Strategic Framework, Proposed Programme Budget, Programme Performance Report, as well as management of trust funds;
• Assist the Director in managing human resources of the Office, including filling vacancies through Inspira;
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director to fulfill the mission and deliver the Programme of Work of the Office.

Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
|
|
|
|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area is required. Experience in programme planning and management is required.
|
|
|
|
Languages
|
|
|
|
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable.
|
|
|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a substantive assessment which may be followed by competency-based interview.
|
