|
The post is located in the Webcast Unit of Television Section under the News and Content Branch of the News and Media Division, Department of Public Information. The incumbent will report directly to the Chief of the Television Section.
|
|
|
|
Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Television Section, the Chief of the Webcast Unit is responsible for the following duties:
•Lead, direct and manage the United Nations Webcast operations;
•Contribute to the formulation and development of a coherent strategy and lead the implementation of policy for video on the Web, particularly for live and on-demand video streaming;
•Direct and manage the production and distribution of daily live and on-demand Webcast coverage of United Nations meetings, briefings, conferences, and other events held at and away from UN Headquarters.
•Responsible for the live and on-demand video content on the UN Webcast website; provide guidance on the maintenance and further improvement of the functionality of the UN Webcast website to maximize global audience through all platforms, including mobile devices;
•Lead, coordinate and implement Unit’s new media and Social Media initiatives; manage the United Nations Channel on YouTube and the UN Webcasts Social Media accounts including Twitter and Facebook; direct and manage the production of creative videos for the Web that could timely promote various UN events and issues.
•Provide leadership and introduce technological changes and innovations; keep abreast of developments in the field of streaming media; determine the need for purchasing, testing, evaluating and implementing new streaming media products, including encoders, services and technologies;
•Develop effective relations with clients and provide requirements and cost estimates for webcast and other services; develop cost proposals for contractual services, oversee the technical evaluation of proposal received and manage the contract service; plan and prepare Webcast coverage requirements for inclusion in host country agreements between the United Nations and the country hosting a UN Conference;
•Supervise and evaluate the work performance of staff including temporary and contract personnel; prepare and implement the Unit’s work program and budget requirements; coordinate inputs for reporting on project performance and expenditure; monitor budgetary allocations; draft routine and ad hoc outputs; provide effective monitoring reports and data; identify deviations from plans and propose corrective measures.

Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, information systems, or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
|
|
|
|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, computer science, information systems or related area is required. Experience in planning, implementing and managing successful live and on-demand Webcast coverage of multiple simultaneous events, including experience at the international level is required. Experience with new media and social media applications, including YouTube, Facebook and Twitter is required. Experience in managing a unit or a team is desirable. United Nations experience is desirable.

Languages
|
|
|
|
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
|

Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
