|
This position is located in the Spanish Language Unit of the Radio Section, News and Content Branch, News and Media Division, under the Department of Public Information. The incumbent will directly report to the Chief of Radio Section.
|
|
|
|
Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the supervision of the Chief of Section, the Chief of the Spanish Language Unit is responsible for the production of radio and online news-related content and the coordination and maintenance of related radio and UN News Centre web pages. Specific duties include:
Providing editorial guidance to the staff, assigning and editing news stories and other types of content; supervising the production of related multimedia products; evaluating the programming;
Contributing to the production of news and feature content, performing digital editing and management of photo files, as necessary;
Undertaking travel on assignment as required;
Planning and implementing promotional efforts, in part through effective liaison with broadcasting organizations; obtaining feedback on the use of the programmes produced;
Managing the staff by discussing individual work plans and evaluating job performance;
Keeping abreast of production developments, technological innovations and marketing techniques in the broadcast and online news industry and ensuring their successful application where relevant.

Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent), in broadcast journalism/communication, international affairs and/or political science. A first-level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
|
|
|
|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
Minimum of seven years progressively responsible radio experience, including research, writing, broadcasting and studio work is required. Experience producing and voicing programmes/reports in Spanish is required. Hands-on practical experience in digital desk-top sound editing, Internet research and electronic posting experience required. Field producing experience in the target broadcast region is desirable.

Languages
|
|
|
|
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position fluency in Spanish and English (both oral and written) is required.
|
|
|

Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency based interview.
