|
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations System's
designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The overall objective of the UNEP's Division of Technology, Industry and Economics (DTIE) is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. This position is located in the UNEP/DTIE Chemicals Branch, Geneva duty station.

Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the supervision of the Head, DTIE Chemicals Branch, and the general supervision of the SAICM Coordinator, the incumbent will carry out the following duties:
1. Work with key clients to facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects; monitor and analyse specific aspects of programme/project development and implementation; review relevant documents and reports; identify problems and issues to be addressed and recommend corrective actions; liaise with relevant parties; identify and track follow-up actions.
2. Carry out basic research on selected aspects of programmes, operations and other activities, such as the collection, analysis and presentation of statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources.
3. Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, such as draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, among others.
4. Provide administrative and substantive support to meetings, including preparation of background documents and presentations and handling logistics.
5. Undertake outreach activities, participate in the development of training workshops, seminars; participate in and make presentations on assigned topics/activities.
6. Contribute to activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, and preparation of related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, among others).
7. Perform other duties as required.

Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
|
|
|
|
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area.
|
|
|
|
Languages
|
|
|
|
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
|
|
|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates for this position may include a substantive assessment which will be followed by a competency-based interview.
