|
This position is located in the Development Business Unit (DBU) within Sales and Marketing, Outreach Division, Department of Public Information. Development Business is the official website portal for procurement information and contract awards from Multilateral Banks, the UN system and several national government agencies.
The internship is for a period of three months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, depending on the needs of the division and availability of the candidate.
The internship is unpaid and full-time.
The Intern will work five days a week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned. Only short listed applicants will be contacted by one or more hiring managers no later than one month after the deadline of the Job Opening.

Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
The intern will assist the Development Business Unit in the following:
- Assist with developing Information Management Tools to streamline and automate data into DB's systems (Digesting RSS feeds, leveraging Social Media APIs, etc)
- Analyze possible mechanisms to structure content on the website, i.e. improve display of notices via search engine; link Business Directory entries to notices based on sectors
- Help explore more accurate sector representation and data categorization so content can easily be found using the advanced search function
- Conduct internet research on search tools, data representation, data visualization
- Understand and research subscriber trends and general website traffic
- Assist with development and implementation and analysis of surveys
-Assist with the programming and development of Graphic User Interfaces.

Education
|

|
A first-level university degree in Information Technology, Communication, Design, Business
or related area. Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school
(second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher
education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four
years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a
degree; be computer-literate in standard software applications; have a demonstrated keen
interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the
Charter; and have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different
cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to try and understand and be
tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Knowledge of either PHP & MYSQL, MSSQL & .NET, .JQUERY & AJAX

No professional work experience required.

Languages
|
|
|
|
English and French are working languages of the UN Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
