|
This position is located in Land Policy Initiative, Regional Integration and Trade Division at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). The incumbent works under the supervision of the Coordinator, Land Policy Initiative in Regional Integration and Trade Division.

|
|
Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
-Support LPI in the design and implementation of a communication and knowledge management strategy related to the implementation of Land Policy Initiative programs and activities.
-Identify the stakeholders, partners and clients of the LPI and develop and implement strategies to enhance knowledge sharing and learning among LPI stakeholders to enhance evidence based land policy development and implementation.
-Develop advocacy materials to enhance the advocacy related impacts of LPI’s output and its visibility.
-Lead implementation of complex communications and knowledge management campaigns (e.g. global and regional promotion initiatives, public information programmes, broad-reaching subject specific issues, etc.) and work to develop ways to implement campaigns system-wide and to incorporate the campaign message and themes into all relevant events and products.
-Provide advice and expertise to the Coordinator, LPI, other LPI organs, RECs and Member States on a range of public affairs issues, methods, and approaches; anticipate and resolve communications/public relations issues/problems.
-Develop strategic partnerships with key constituencies to elicit support for and maximize impact of promotional objectives of the LPI.
-Support the LPI in preparing presentations and other verbal/written communications; build the capacity of LPI staff , RECs and Member States to improve their written style, language, formats, and archival maintenance for institutional knowledge base.
-Develop other product forms (the web, on CD/video, social network platforms, outdoor advertising and promotion, etc. for broadcast and print media, etc) for dissemination of LPI’s outputs to different target audiences.
-Conceptualize all publications and programmed outputs and co-ordinate output planning, sequencing and prioritization; coordinates publishing, launching, marketing and dissemination of outputs; disseminates and solicits client feedback for quality control purposes to ensure systematic, client focused future planning.
-Guide task teams regularly to establish public relations or news value and packaging of relevant material for internal and external communication.
-Prepare or oversee the preparation of a diverse range of information communications products in support of major campaign initiatives.
-Evaluate results and impact of communications activities; reports on developments, trends and attitudes.
-Build information networks; plans and oversees maintenance of publicly accessible information materials on the LPI; plan and develop outreach activities.
-Produce communication and public information materials for print, electronic, voice, and visual media.
-Carry out other related tasks as assigned by management.

Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, knowledge management, international relations, public administration or related areas. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
|
|

|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, knowledge management, international relations, public administration or related field especially applied to developmental issues.
|
|
|
|
Languages
|
|
|
|
Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
|
|
|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
|
|
|
|
Special Notice
|
|
|
|
Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her, in this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures. This is a project post. Filling of this position is subject to funding availability and the initial appointment will be for a period of one year. Extension of the appointment is subject to extension of the mandate and/or the availability of funds.
