|
The position is located in the Capacity Development Division at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the Principal Regional Advisor, Development Planning, Capacity Development Division.
|

|
Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Within the delegated authority, the Senior Regional Advisor will be responsibility for the following duties: - Provide technical advisory services on policies and strategies relating to development planning through scenario analysis, missions, policy analysis and dissemination of frameworks and guidelines.
- Develop institutional capacity for development planning in ECA member States through the design of coordination mechanisms, ability to assess risks and challenges and to monitor and evaluate outcomes according to specified indicators.
- Design frameworks and guidelines for development planning in ECA member States and their institutions including through the preparation of position papers and technical studies based on ECA analytical work.
- Enable member States to harmonize their national development plans with regional plans and programmes through the identification of linkages and related processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in eonomics, development studies, public administration or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
|

Work Experience
|
|
|
|
A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in the field of development economics, gained through providing advisory services and undertaking research, policy formulation and implementation at national, regional and international levels.
|
|
|
|
Languages
|
|
|
|
Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage
|

|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
