This position is located in the Office of the Chief of the Communications Campaigns Service of the Strategic Communications Division in the Department of Public Information. The Public Information Officer reports to the Chief of the Communications Campaigns Service.
|

|
Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Communications Campaigns Service, the incumbent will lead the social media activities of the Department by drafting social media content for major campaigns, developing and advising senior management on effective social media strategies and coordinating social media efforts with other departments, offices, funds and programmes across the UN System. The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
• Takes the lead in the strategy, planning, development and implementation of complex social media campaigns.
• Drafts complex material for UN social media platforms and edits drafts prepared by junior staff.
• Provides advice and expertise to managers, senior officers and other public information staff on a range of social media issues; anticipates and resolves communications issues/problems.
• Evaluates results and impact of communications activities on social media platforms; reports on developments, trends and attitudes regarding the UN.
• Coordinates a team of public information staff and/or mentor and supervise the work of junior officers on social media
• Represents the Organization in meetings and conferences on social media; fulfils speaking engagements and makes presentations to groups on UN social media activities.

Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field. A first level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
|
|
|
|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area. Experience in social media is required. Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the first level university degree recognised by the United Nations.
|
|
|
|
Languages
|
|
|
|
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and oral English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
|
|
|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
|
