Org. Setting and Reporting

|
Under the overall command of the Chief of Service, the Security Inspector is required to perform armed security functions and reports directly to the Assistant Chief or supervising officer. All duties are performed in uniform however at times the Inspector may be required to perform duties in civilian clothes.
|
|
|
|
Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
(1) Consults with and advises the Assistant Chief of Operations on all matters and activities of concern planned or taking place within the UN complex, especially in relations to security arrangements and operations; (2) Advises and makes recommendations in the formulation of goals and objectives of the Service; (3) Ensures that the established goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with prescribed priorities, time limitations and financial conditions; (4) Manages all responsibilities in assigned area. Recommends and advises on matters concerning the organization and management to the activities of his/her assigned responsibilities; (5) Determines work schedules and make adjustments thereto in light of changing requirements; plans coverage for special events, VIP visits in consultation with the Chief, Deputy Chief and Assistant Chiefs of the Service, officials of Secretariat departments and external security representatives; (6) Supervises subordinate supervisory personnel and oversees the performance of all other staff under command; (7) Conducts regular briefings with supervisory personnel under command; (8) Counsels and coaches staff as required; (9) Ensures that all posts are properly and effectively supervised and staffed by making adjustments in light of operational requirements; (10) Assures the availability of all relevant resources to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the section/unit; (11) Reviews the recommendations of subordinate supervisors on candidates for recruitment and selection of staff for higher level positions and lateral reassignments, and prepares final recommendations for approval by the Chief of Service; (12) Ensures that all incidents and complaints reported are effectively addressed and appropriate measures are taken to curtail reoccurrences; (13) Assumes command of emergency or heightened security situations until properly relieved; (14) Assists in the preparation of budget proposals and performance reports; (15) Manages and processes overtime and attendance of personnel under command; (16) Assists in the planning of all security operations and is responsible for the execution of security operations within the UNHQs; (17) Performs all other related duties as required.

Education
|
|
|
|
High school diploma or equivalent. Additional security or military training is required. Must have met the entry-level security requirements including having passed the United Nations Security Officer Test (SOT) in New York.
|
|
|
|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
Eighteen (18) years of experience in all areas of the security operation within the UN Security and Safety Service in New York, including investigation, physical security, personal protection, strategic and operational planning, fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical and hazardous material response, video imaging badge systems, methods of instruction or related area.
|
|
|
|
Languages
|
|
|
|
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
