This position is located in Service Desk of the Human Resources Information Systems Section of the Office of Human Resources Management, Department of management. The Service Desk provides, among other tasks, continual improvement of customer services through implementation of the UN / industry standard (ITIL).
The Office of Human Resources Management internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
Under the general supervision of Chief, Human Resources Information Systems Section (HRISS) and within delegated authority, the Information Technology Intern (LAN and Desktop Administration) will assist in the following duties:
- Attempts to resolve as many problem calls or service requests on initial contact. - Performs tasks related to scheduled service requests, including equipment replacement, equipment installation/de-installation, software installation, LAN connection, returns to stock, site surveys, among others. - Diagnoses and resolves any hardware, software, or connectivity problem with minimum delay. - Identifies and escalates problems to the appropriate parties in accordance with established procedure. - Detects problem patterns and recommend solutions. - Performs other related duties as required.

Education

Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree, preferably in the area of Information Technology (Computer Science, Information Management Systems or related field);
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
and Have a demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

|
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
|

Languages
|
|
|
|
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.
|
