|
The position is located in the Television Features Section of the News and Media Division.
The unit is seeking interns interested in gaining professional, hands-on experience with
television and multimedia functions, specifically film, video and social media projects. The
internship is for a minimum of two months with a possibility for extension. The internship is
unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the
Chief of the Television Features Section.

Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
This opportunity is designed for an intern to work with experienced information
professionals. Interns will be assigned to work with one or two producers or assistant
producers to create videos for various feature programmes including 21st Century, UN In
Action and UNStories. Knowledge of Social Media platforms – Twitter, Facebook, Flickr -
is highly desirable. Also technical knowledge using FTP, and other file transfer mechanisms
is an advantage.Functions include script writing, editing using Final Cut Pro 7 and Abobe
Premiere, and filming using Sony EX-1 or Cannon DSLR 5D. Work varies from original
script writing, re-writing scripts of producers from other UN Agencies, drafting teases, story
intros, blurbs, selecting music, establishing copyright procedures, and narrating videos. It is
essential that candidates are versed in Final Cut Pro 7 as the United Nations, the editing
software currently in use. Interns may be requested to perform any other ad hoc duties
including assisting with studio recordings.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, Department of Public Information, the following conditions must be met:
1. Applicants must:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar.
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages
|
|
|
|
English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the internship
advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official
language is an advantage.
