|
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The overall objective of UNEP's Division of Technology, Industry and Economics (DTIE) is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies, practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. Responsibilities
|
|
|
|
1. Develop, implement and evaluate assigned programmes / projects. This includes monitor and analyze the development and implementation of transport projects, review relevant documents and reports, coordinate activities related to budget funding. 2. Initiate and coordinate outreach activities, this includes conduct training workshops and seminars, plan facilitation workshops through interactive sessions and assist in developing action plans that the clients will use to manage the change and lead and/or participate in large complex field missions. 3. Coordinate policy development including the review and analysis of issues and trends, prepare impact evaluations, research and analyse present information gathered from diverse sources, organize and prepare outputs. 4. Any other duties as assigned.

Education
|
|
|
|
Advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in a field that gives the incumbent insight in the substantive and policy issues related to energy/transport/fuels /environment or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
|
|
|
|
Work Experience
|
|
|
|
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in linking clean fuels and vehicle issues with environmental issues, experience in a government setting and experience in promoting fuels/transport/energy issues in Africa is an added advantage. Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the first level university degree recognized by the United Nations.

Languages
|
|
|
|
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
|
|
|
|
Assessment
|
|
|
|
Evaluation of qualified candidates will include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Extension of the appointment is subject to Extension of the mandate and/or the availability of the funds. Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her.
